What do you do when wicked men prosper?

What are you to do or think when the person who is cheating the company gets the promotion?  Or the woman who lacks morality gets special treatment on the job?  When someone comes onto good fortune while pursuing their path of immorality and wickedness while you have been praying for help just to pay the bills?

As my 5-year-old would put it, “Daddy!  Bad guys aren’t supposed to win!”  Many of us wish we could retreat to that child like innocence in this area of life.  But the reality is, sometimes it appears that people prosper in spite of or even because of their wickedness.  What should be the Christians attitude toward these situations?

What to DO when the wicked prosper:

  • Trust in the Lord and do good.. (37:3)
  • Delight thyself also in the Lord (37:4)
  • Commit thy way unto the Lord (37:5)
  • Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently on him (37:7)

What NOT TO DO when the wicked prosper:

  • Don’t allow yourself to be distracted or continually bothered by this.  “Fret not thyself  because of evildoers…”  (37:1).
  • Don’t allow yourself to become angry, bitter or malicious about this.  “Cease from anger and forsake wrath…” (37:8)
  • Don’t allow yourself to conclude that wickedness pays off and that “good guys finish last.”  “be thou not envious against the workers of iniquity…” (37:1)  “Fret not thyself in any wise to do evil…” (37:8)

How to THINK when the wicked prosper:

  • Prosperity of the Wicked is only for a  “little while” but judgment is certain to follow.  “For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.” (37:10)  No one ever gets away with anything.  Every man will one day answer to God.  (37:13-15)
  • It is better to have a “little” prosperity here (earth) and the approval of the Father there (heaven).  “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.”  (37:16)
  • Prosperity of the Righteous will be Forever.  “The Lord knoweth the days of the upright:  and their inheritance shall be for ever.”  (37:18)  “But the meek shall inherit the earth;  and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”  (37:11)

Do you have the same struggles that the psalmist did?

  1. It is so great to know that the Bible has the answer to every question and direction for every circumstance we face. God breathed words written so long ago for me to use today.

  2. Wow! Thanks for the reminder. I needed to hear that today! Pro 15:3
