Disappointment is His Appointment

“Disappointment is His appointment.”

Have you ever experienced a major disappointment in life? I’m talking about one where you believed it to be life-altering. Loss of job, major health concern, loss of a loved one, a wayward child, financial crisis.

Think about some of the biblical stories you may know and you’ll find this to be true. Our disappointment is God’s appointment. Consider the following:

  1. Moses & the Nation of Israel. (Exodus 2)
Disappointment: God’s chosen people, the Jewish nation, were in slavery and bondage under the Pharaoh in Egypt.
Appointment: God used Moses in an incredible way to take the disappointment of  Israel and it became time for Divine deliverance.God used Moses for that Divine deliverance (Exodus 2.23-25).
  2. Hannah & Samuel. (1 Samuel 1)
Disappointment: Hannah was not able to have a child.
Appointment: In God’s timing, God gave to Hannah a child who was used mightily of God.
  3. Job & His Family. (Job 1)
Disappointment: Job loses all his possessions and more significantly loses his family.
Appointment: Job regains all his possessions and more. He never “regains” his family, but He comes into this powerful truth. Job 19:25, 26, “For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.”
  4. Jesus & the Holy Spirit. (John 14)
Disappointment:Jesus will no longer be physically present with His disciples.
Appointment: Jesus will send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, in His place. God’s presence from this point forward will be on an individual basis with those born again.
  5. Peter at the Crucifixion & Peter at Pentecost. (John 18, Acts 2)
Disappointment: Peter falls and denies Christ by cursing.
God takes the cursing mouth of Peter and uses Peter to be a blessing to the world through the message that Jesus, the Son of God, saves people from their sin.

What disappointments are you experiencing? Trials can either bring greater trouble or a greater testimony for Christ. God has a special appointment around the corner that will be unique for us and He plans on using us in a tremendous way if we’ll simply allow our disappointments to do what God designed them to do: to bring us closer to God.
