Go Ahead, Be the Salt

Matthew 5:13  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Christ reminds believers that we are the “salt of the earth.” Salt has always been a key component in the history of our world. Roman soldiers were paid a portion of their annual salary with salt. (Think of the phrase, ‘not worth his salt’.) History tells us that caravans would travel the desert trading salt for gold, ounce for ounce. Salt was used in the building of the Erie Canal and the French Revolution. With over thirty different references to salt in the Bible, there are many purposes (spiritual and physical) for salt. Just as God has designed this world for the use of salt, so He has designed people to be in spiritual need of salt. So, whatever sphere of influence God has placed you in go ahead, be the salt: at work with co-workers, at home with your family, watching a game with friends, with your neighbors across the fence. Be what God designed you to be.
