Chris & Rachel DeMorrell

On Monday, June 20th, Lord willing, Rachel and I will have a moving truck packed up and will be on the road headed for Utah to work with Baptist Mid-Missions missionary Mike Bardon. Mike and his wife, Neva, are veteran missionaries who began church planting in the state in 1972. They are currently working on their third church plant in Santaquin, Utah, which is about 60 miles south of Salt Lake City. Santaquin is a bedroom community for Provo and Salt Lake of about 9,000 people and is approximately 95% Mormon. Santaquin Baptist Church currently has a core group of around 15-20 people consisting of members and faithful attendees. Rachel and I will be working closely with them as tentmakers to help further the work. Mike has asked us to head up a children’s ministry, and in addition to this, I’ll be helping Mike with the preaching and teaching ministries. We’ll also be doing weekly canvassing and outreach in the neighborhoods. Some other ministries that Mike is involved in include serving on the board and teaching for Rocky Mountain Baptist Bible College. RMBBC is a non-traditional school taught at local churches that enables students to earn credits towards degrees at schools such as Northland. He also has an active jail ministry and is heavily involved with administrating Camp UTIBACA (Utah Independent Baptist Camp Association), which is a ministry of the Utah missions churches statewide. The camp itself is located at an elevation of 8,000 feet on the side of a mountain in Ephraim and runs junior through senior high camps along with weeks for horsemanship and leadership training. We plan on being involved with this ministry during the summers. This website details more about what we’ll be doing as well as other ministry opportunities in Utah .

Mormons are sincere people trapped in a works based system. An excellent resource for information on Mormonism and how it differs from historic Christianity can be found at Utah Lighthouse Ministry There is tremendous need in Utah because of the predominance of Mormonism and we’re excited about the work God has for us. Our theme verse and prayer as we go is found in Acts 26:18, “to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.” We would ask that you pray for us that, in addition to providing housing and jobs, God would use us to this end.

 Rescue the lost for the sake of His name;

As Christ commands, snatch them out of the flame.

Tell that when Jesus died

God’s wrath was satisfied.

Urge them to flee to the Lamb who was slain.

In Jesus’ power, preach Christ to the lost;

For Jesus’ glory, count all else but loss.

Gather from every place

Trophies of sov’reign grace.

Lest life be wasted, exalt Jesus’ cross.
